Cold weather got you down? No need to worry if you live at The Mercer because just steps from this preconstruction building is The Second City.
The Second City is a comedy club known for its sketch comedy and improv. It was originally founded in 1959 inChicago and now has locations in Toronto and Los Angeles. Second Citywas home to many well known comedians such as John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, both of whom went on to do Saturday Night Live. Other famous comedians who got their start at Second City include Mike Myers, Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, and Tina Fey.
While originally only a cabaret comedy theater, “The Second City has grown well beyond a single stage to become a diversified entertainment company” offering improvisation and sketch comedy training classes at all three of their locations. In addition to all of this comedy, they also have several touring ensembles all over North America.
There are several shows going on right now and throughout December including Dreams Really Do Come True! (and other lies), The Absolutely Positively Completely Made-Up Show!, The Miracle On Mercer Street, and The Second City’s Dysfunctional Holiday Revue.
Shows run seven nights a week, and cost anywhere from $12-29. They also offer food and drinks during the shows, or you can eat before hand at Wayne Gretzky’s where they provide reserved seating for Second City ticket holders. Prices for the show and dinner range from $42-59 depending on the night.
